Comparing Developed and developing countries
The inequality between developed and underdeveloped countries is a persistent and complex issue that has significant social, economic and political implications. The wealth gap between these two types of nations has created a global economic system that promotes inequality that leads to a struggle with poverty, healthcare, education and political instability in much of the world. Tackling this global problem requires investment, by developed countries, in the education, healthcare, infrastructure and political systems of under developed countries in order to make a more stable world for everyone.
For this assignment, you will be required to
~ compare a developed country with a developing country in the world. For the two nations, you will compare........
~ their human rights index ranking
~ their systems of government and demographics
~ their economies
~ their health care systems
~ their education systems
You have been asked to make a presentation to the United Nations Economic and Social Council that compares a developed and developing countries that helps to show the inequality that the global economic system has created between developing countries and developed country. How you present this material is up to you.....it can be a powerpoint, video, podcast, padlet, wiki, booklet etc, as long as you show the comparisons.
Here are the basics:
· Each presentation will have 6 sections, based on the required topics listed above. You must also include some geographical information for your countries. You will be given note sheets for each topic
· The first page is the cover of the booklet/presentation. The country names and flags should be included on the cover and all photos must be relevant to the topic.
· The second page should be a Table of Contents page and contain the following:
1. Human Geography
2. Human Development Index (HDI)
3. Government
4. Economy
5. Health Care
6. Education
7. Persuasive Essay
8. Bibliography
· You are responsible for researching and writing the content of the booklet/presentation.
· Information for each section should come mainly from the links provided or library sources, but information may be added from other sources. Remember, you need to cite any source you get information from. Those sources need to be included in your report bibliography.
You can form a group for the research phase of the assignment to make it a little easier, but each student must do their own project to hand in. Remember that if you form research groups, other people are depending on you to do thorough research, so make sure you get it done on time and done right.
· You can design the images and graphics for the cover and each of the sections, but only after you have finished your research.
· After researching and reporting your findings, write a minimum 5 paragraph essay to support either of the following statements:
We believe that, as Canadians, we have an obligation to support developing countries as they strive to improve their situation.
OR
We believe that, as Canadians, we do not have an obligation to support developing countries in their efforts to improve conditions in their countries.
The argument should have three reasons for your opinion, and should end with a concluding statement. The essay should be included in the booklet as section 6, “Argument on Support of Developing Countries.” or handed in separately if you do a digital presentation.
